American Heart Association BLS Instructor Course
The American Heart Association (AHA) BLS Instructor Course is conducted in two parts:
Part 1 – Online Instructor Essentials (Completed at Home)
Upon registration and payment, participants will require to also purchase additionally and complete the the AHA BLS Instructor Essentials Online Course. This self-paced online module covers:
- Fundamentals of instruction and adult learning
- AHA course structure and policies
- Instructor responsibilities
- Classroom preparation and course delivery
Participants must complete the online portion prior to attending the classroom session and bring the printed completion certificate to class.
Prerequisite Requirement
All candidates must possess a valid and unexpired American Heart Association BLS Provider certification card prior to enrollment.
Please note:
- Only AHA-issued BLS Provider cards are accepted
- Non-AHA certifications cannot be accepted for AHA Instructor training programs
Proof of certification must be submitted upon registration/payment.
Part 2 – Classroom Instructor Development Session
The in-person Instructor Development Course will be conducted at:
Medserv Healthcare Solutions
South Brunswick, New Jersey
The classroom portion includes:
- AHA and Medserv Training Center policies
- Course administration and documentation
- Equipment setup, cleaning, and maintenance
- CPR science updates and guideline changes
- Skills testing and evaluation methods
- Instructor responsibilities and professionalism
- Written testing and practical evaluation
Teach-Back Requirement
Instructor candidates will be required to complete a “teach-back” presentation by teaching a randomly assigned portion of the BLS course to the class.
Instructor Monitoring Requirement
Following successful completion of the classroom session, candidates must successfully complete an instructor monitoring session by teaching or assisting with a live BLS Provider course.
Candidates may:
- Arrange their own monitoring session, or
- Participate in a Medserv BLS course
Monitoring conducted through Medserv faculty is provided at no additional cost when completed through a Medserv course.

Medserv Healthcare Solutions reserves the right to refuse or discontinue instructor candidates who do not meet minimum competency, professionalism, or performance standards.
Course fees are non-refundable for candidates who:
- Fail testing or evaluations
- Do not complete course requirements
- Do not meet instructor qualifications
